I've been concentrating on lineation and its integration with
colour and form. St. Ives as a subject for planal investigation
is ideal in the way that views there are flattened by the almost
blinding light that is bounced from wall to wall, thus creating
a lack of any deep shadow which would produce visual depth.
St.
Ives also invokes the sense that just outside the visual frame
something exists that would affect ones perception of what you
see, so the desire to peek around corners is a constant. Depicting
these nuances encourages careful study and playfulness. Line,
colour and form become part of the story of omnipotence and deception.
This to me is the visual narrative of St. Ives and the aim of
my paintings.
